2. What we collect

3. Your health information

Health information is special personal information under POPIA. We collect it only to provide eye care and optical services to you, and it's handled by our HPCSA-registered optometrists and staff under a duty of confidentiality. We share it only with your consent, with your medical aid to process a claim, or where the law requires it. We don't use your health information for marketing.

4. How we use your information

  • to process orders, deliveries, collections and returns
  • to book and carry out eye tests, and make and fit your glasses or contact lenses
  • to submit claims to your medical aid
  • to send appointment reminders and recall notices when your next eye test is due
  • to respond to your questions and complaints
  • to send marketing, but only if you've opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • to meet our legal, tax and professional record-keeping obligations

5. Who we share it with

We share information only as needed with service providers who help us run our business, including our e-commerce platform (Shopify), payment providers, couriers, lens laboratories and suppliers, and your medical aid. They may only use it to provide services to us. Some providers, such as Shopify, store data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we rely on providers that are bound by data protection laws or agreements that give a similar level of protection to POPIA. We never sell your personal information.

6. How long we keep it

We keep clinical records for as long as required by HPCSA guidelines and other applicable law, and other records only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required for tax and accounting.

7. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to make the shop work (for example, your cart) and, with your consent, to understand how the site is used and to show relevant ads. You can manage cookies through the banner on our site or your browser settings.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. If a breach affects you, we'll notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA.

9. Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent to marketing. Email info@interoptika.co.za. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page.
