Many South African medical aid plans include optical benefits for eye tests, frames, lenses and contact lenses. How much is covered depends on your scheme and plan.
How optical benefits usually work
- Benefits are often available once every 12/24 months, for an eye test plus either glasses or contact lenses.
- Some schemes use a managed care network of approved optometrists; using a network provider can increase what is covered.
- Anything above your benefit is a co-payment, which you pay at the practice.
